This artwork first appeared in "Adventures in the Great Forest of Equatorial Africa and the Country of the Dwarfs", a book by Paul Belloni Du Chaillu, a French-American traveler and anthropologist. Born in 1835, Du Chaillu is known for his explorations in Africa during the mid-19th century. The book, published by Harper & Brothers in 1890, provides a detailed account of his travels and observations in the equatorial regions of Africa, with a particular focus on the dense forests and the communities of the so-called "dwarfs" he encountered. Du Chaillu's work is characterized by his vivid descriptions and his anthropological insights, offering readers a glimpse into the diverse ecosystems and cultures of 19th-century Africa. Despite his death in 1903, Du Chaillu's contributions to anthropology and travel literature continue to be recognized.
