Trogan Variegatus (1804-1908)

John Gould (1804-1881) and William Matthew Hart (1830-1908) were significant figures in the field of ornithological illustration. Gould was an English ornithologist and bird artist known for his detailed and vibrant illustrations of birds, while Hart was a talented bird illustrator and lithographer who worked for Gould for most of his professional career. Hart began working for Gould in 1851 and by 1870, he was Gould's chief artist and lithographer, often coloring the finished plates. Their work is often acknowledged for its bright colors and fine detail, which continues to be admired today.
