About the Artist
Product Details

This artwork comes from a turning point in the 19th century, when fashion magazines started to be displayed in stands and shops. Initially sold only by subscriptions, the magazines would have nondescript covers without text or images. As they were brought to the broader public, publishers leaned into new, attractive covers to entrance a new set of buyers. This cover was made by an unknown artist and sourced from The Rijksmuseum, which holds a collection of art that spans 800 years of Dutch history.
