Product Details

Julie de Graag, born on July 18, 1877, in Gorinchem, Netherlands, was a Dutch artist known for her work in watercolor, printmaking, and painting. She studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, focusing on woodcuts under the guidance of Henk Bremmer. Her work, part of the Art Nouveau movement, often bridged the gap between this style and De Stijl. De Graag's art is recognized for its powerful, technically masterful style, with strong contrasting colors and a distinctive omission of details. Tragically, she struggled with depression and ultimately committed suicide on February 2, 1924, in The Hague.
