Ethel Reed, born in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1874 and active until 1912, was a distinguished American graphic artist known for her work in the late 19th century. Largely self-taught, Reed briefly studied at the Cowles School of Art in Boston and quickly rose to prominence as one of Boston's leading poster designers. Her works, characterized by their Art Nouveau style, received international acclaim in both America and Europe during the 1890s. She collaborated with notable Boston-area publishers as a book illustrator and cover design artist and contributed to avant-garde publications like "The Yellow Book". Reed's artistic circle spanned both Boston and London, reflecting her significant influence in the graphic arts of that era.
