About the Artist
Product Details

Moriz Jung, born in Nikolsburg (now Mikulov, Czech Republic) in 1885, was a notable Austrian artist and graphic designer. He attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna from 1901 to 1908, where he was influenced by prominent tutors like Carl Otto Czeschka and Bertold Löffler. Jung's art, characterized by a distinctive humorous and often bizarre graphic style, encompassed woodcuts, linocuts, lithographs, postcards, and book illustrations. His early career featured a book of colored woodcuts of animals and a prestigious commission from the Wiener Werkstätte to create a poster for the Cabaret Fledermaus in Vienna in 1907. Despite his short career, he was prolific, contributing to major Viennese publications like Ver Sacrum and Erdgeist and producing socially critical caricatures under various aliases. His artistic contributions, especially to the Wiener Werkstätte and his involvement in the Viennese art scene, have left a significant legacy.
