Reijer Johan Antonie Stolk (1896-1945) was a Javanese-born Dutch painter, sculptor, graphic designer, inventor, and batik artist. Born in Ngunut, he migrated from East Java to the Netherlands between the ages of three and twelve. In 1910, he enrolled in the Applied Arts School in Haarlem. Stolk embarked on a trip to the Gold Coast and Nigeria in 1930 to study patterns on clothing fabrics, a journey that had a significant impact on his artistic work. His diverse talents and unique experiences contributed to his distinctive style, which is evident in his woodblock prints, paintings, and batik artworks.
